You Can Now Get PrEP Via Telehealth

With the Coronavirus Pandemic there are been changes making it harder to start PrEP or get your first PrEP appointment.

Lock down has made it hard to see your doctor. Perhaps you can’t leave your home or would prefer not to. I 100% understand it can be hard and want to make this easier for you.

PrEP for HIV prevention is important and for this reason I have now changed my processes to ensure that all people in Australia can access their PrEP with a simple telehealth appointment via phone call or video chat if you prefer.

So what is involved?

PrEP telehealth appointments are very straight forward.

First you need to book a telehealth appointment with myself. In your appointment I will call you and check in on how PrEP is going for you.
If you’ve had no issues we can get your paperwork created and sent to you.

Your PrEP prescription will be sent to you via an SMS ‘eScript’ which you can take to the pharmacy and they will be able to download your prescription.

Regular screening tests are an important part of getting your PrEP. To make this possible I have created a home test kits for you do to the tests.

The kit can be picked up at Collins street or mailed to your address so you can get your testing done.

If you choose to have your kit posted there is a small fee to cover the postage.

Included in the kit is two swabs one for the throat, one for the anus as well as a urine jar.
There is a pathology slip to ensure you get the right tests.
I have also included a sticker with a video link that explains exactly how to do the swabs.

You can do the swabs and urine test in the privacy of your home, place them into the bag which you will be able to take to your closest pathology provider.

Your local pathology collection centre will take the swabs and urine and then organise your blood tests.

The blood tests are to check for exposure to HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis as well as checking your kidney function.

Remember the testing is a very important part of the regular PrEP cycle.

Your results will be phoned to you or sent via SMS 2 -3 days after you have visited the pathology collection centre.

If there are any infections we need to treat I will contact you to help get you treatment either with myself or a doctor local to you.

If you would like to book an appointment you simply need to call my office on 03 8575 6900
