One question I am often asked is if the presence of a sexually-transmitted infection ( STI )mean that PrEP will not work?

This is shown not to be true.*

PrEP will work even if you have other infections in your body.

The mechanism of PrEP is not affected if you have an infection of syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia, or even a chest infection or a cold.

As long as you’re still able to take the PrEP as directed, you will be protected against HIV.
